Abstract Geometry

Create an abstract pattern through the use of shapes, lines, and colours. Use a compass or found objects such as a cup or masking tape to draw circles and have a ruler handy.

What you will need

  • Paper
  • Lead pencil
  • Colour pencils or markers
  • Compass
  • Found objects for circles to trace (a can, gluestick, loo roll, etc)
  • Ruler

Handy Tips

To learn about basic colour theory, download the Colour Wheel and complete the activity sheet.

Step 1

Step 1.

Grab a cup or masking tape and place it on your page. Trace around the bottom to form a circle. Draw as many as you like on the page, they may touch and overlap and can be in all different sizes.
Step 2

Step 2.

Select another shape and draw over the top, you may use the ruler to assist.
Step 3

Step 3.

Where the shapes overlap, colour in or decorate using different patterns. To create difference try using contrast colours and avoid using the same pattern next to each other.
